You know Annie Ford as the ghostly fiddle player in your favorite country band. You know her from your neighborhood farm stand, straw hat pulled over her eyes, strumming a worn-out acoustic or sawing out an old time tune. You know Annie Ford by her haunting singing voice, honed by decades of American grit. The song that Ford carries across the mountains is one you hear when you first open your eyes, and the echo that fades away just as you close them at night. Her voice reaches out like an old phonograph– a cracked vision of the past that eerily taps into our modern age. She set off on the highway young, settling first in New Orleans, Northern California then planting roots in Seattle where she honed her skills across a wide musical spectrum. A true multi-instrumentalist, they play fiddle, banjo, guitar, piano, accordion, ukulele, washtub bass, and viola. Ford draws inspiration from jazz, old-time, klezmer, Irish, Cajun, and country blues traditions. Now fully settled in the Natural State in Little Rock, Ford has quickly become a staple at the legendary White Water Tavern. Her most recent album Headed South, eloquently details what it means to leave home: heartbreaking goodbyes, trepidation toward the unknown, and overcoming the obstacles of leaving what you once knew for uncharted territories.
